Tajana Sekelj Ivančan was born December 1, 1963, in Varaždin, and attended elementary and secondary school in Zagreb.

- 1989-2002 Employed as a junior researcher/research assistant (trainee) in the Institute of Historical Sciences, now the Institute of Archaeology (further IARH), where she continues to work.

FELLOWSHIPS AND AWARDS
- In 1990 received a grant to attend the seminar Protostoria e storia di Aquilei e dell' arco Adriatico in Aquileia, Italy.
- 2012 – Received the annual "Josip Brunšmid" award from the Croatian Archaeological Society for the scientific monograph "Podravina in the Early Medieval Period".

A/ Scientific collaboration:
- 1997-1999 – On the basis of cooperation with Slovenian colleagues (Mitja Guštin) invited to be the coordinator for Croatia for the international medieval archaeology project with Slovenia: The Fortification System Between Šentjernej and Samobor, with Special Emphasis on the Gorjance/Žumberak Heights and the Krka and Kupa River Valleys.
- 1998 – 2001 – Directed a stimulus project for young scientists: Typological-Chronological Analysis of Pottery in Northern Croatia – 10th-13th Centuries (Croatian Ministry of Science and Education).
- 2005 - On the basis of cooperation with Hungarian colleagues (Miklos Takacs) gave an invited paper at the international conference RURALIA VI – Arts and Crafts in Medieval Rural Environment “The Earth and Wood Fortification in the Podravina Region and its Relationship to the Settlement and Cemetery”, Szentendre-Dobogoko (Hungary), also with a poster “An Early Medieval Fisherman's Settlement in the Drava River Basin”.
- 2002-2006 – Led the scientific project An Archaeological Image of the Medieval Settlements of Podravina (Croatian Ministry of Science and Education).
