Geochemical prospecting. Multielemental analysis of slag and iron objects.
Multielemental analysis will be carried out on slag and other component parts of furnaces. They will be compared with certain iron objects from well-dated closed archaeological assemblages from the settlement. The results of analysis of the iron objects will be compared to the results of the soil analysis (iron ore) in order to establish if the objects were made from iron processed in the nearby smelting workshop. Field, laboratory, and office work.
Time dedicated to the project: 20% working time.
